The Best Ways to Treat, Prevent Tendonitis

Tennis elbow, quarterback shoulder, and jumper’s knee are forms of tendonitis, a painful but preventable injury. Tendonitis is your body’s way of telling you to STOP putting so much stress and pressure on your body. Tendons are connective tissues that hold muscles to bones. When muscles expand, tendons react causing bones to move. The tissue will fix itself quickly if the damage is slight or happens only sometimes. But pain can become constant if the damage happens often.

Tendonitis can occur from:

  1. Forceful or violent motions (example can be boxing or throwing a fastball)
  2. Unnatural motions( like serving a tennis ball)
  3. Poor body mechanics or technique when doing an activity like aerobics, lifting weights, or painting the ceiling

Tendonitis is something I have been currently dealing with, and if I can give any advice it would be to take rest and don’t fight through any pain in your tendons. It is important to take rest days as much as it is to go to the gym. It will set you back for an even longer period of time.
